PANTHERS ESCAPE WITH TIE AGANST RED WINGS |
Posted: Monday, October 11, 1999 Hockey |
Sunrise, (Fl.)---The Florida Panthers have every reason to be content with their tie against one of the best teams the NHL have to offer. Despite trailing after the first period 2-0 the Panthers rallied with two goals of their own in the second period, one by Ryan Johnson and the other by Ray Whitney. With the score even after the second intermission it became a war of attrition between the two goalies, Chris Osgood for Detroit and Florida’s Trevor Kidd. The contest remained tied through overtime due in large part to the stellar performance from Red Wing goalie Chris Osgood, who saved the would be game winning goal from the stick of Radek Dvorak with little over a minute left. Salvaging a point against a Detroit team that the Panthers haven’t beaten in almost three years, improves their record to 2-0-1. The Panthers will now set their sights on Tuesday when they’ll visit Montreal to face the Canadiens. Game Summary: Goals: Detroit---B .Shanahan 1 (power play)-- S .Federov 2. Florida—R. Johnson 1-- R. Whitney 3 Goalies: Detroit—C. Osgood- 25 saves (2-0-1) Florida--- T. Kidd – 22 saves (1-0-1) For additional South Florida Sports Updates, be sure to come back to...
